26-Year-Old Lake Forest Man Critically Injured In Costa Mesa Hit-And-Run

COSTA MESA (CBSLA.com) — A 26-year-old man in Costa Mesa was critically injured Sunday by a hit-and-run motorist driving an SUV.

The crash occurred at 4:53 a.m. at the intersection of Newport Boulevard and Broadway, according to Costa Mesa police Lt. Greg Scott.

Traffic was snarled at the southern end of the Costa Mesa (55) Freeway for several hours as police investigated.

The victim was only publicly identified as a resident of Lake Forest.

He attempted to cross the busy road outside the crosswalk when he was struck by a small blue SUV, possibly a Isuzu Amigo. The SUV was driven south on Newport Boulevard without the driver stopping and rendering aid, Scott said.

Paramedics rushed the pedestrian, in critical condition, to Orange County Global Medical Center in Santa Ana with leg and facial injuries, he said.

Police believe the SUV sustained moderate front-passenger side damage. Costa Mesa police asked anyone who saw the crash to call them at (714) 754-5264.
