10 Freeway Shut Down During Morning Commute For Death Investigation

EL MONTE (CBSLA.com) — A section of the San Bernardino (10) Freeway was closed Tuesday in El Monte while authorities investigated a possible homicide.

California Highway Patrol officers closed the eastbound 10 Freeway near Peck Road about 4:30 a.m., according to California Highway Patrol.

Early this morning, a tow truck driver spotted a white 2011 Chevrolet Malibu pulled over on the right shoulder and stopped to render aid, said CHP Officer Peter Nicholson.

The driver discovered a woman in her 20s unresponsive in the vehicle and called 911, he said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The freeway was reopened shortly before noon.
