Suspect Trying To Evade Police Skids Out On Snowy Road, Crashes

HAMTRAMCK (WWJ) - Authorities say a police chase in Hamtramck only lasted about 30 seconds because the suspect lost control on a snow-covered road.

The incident unfolded around 4 p.m. Wednesday when Michigan State Police troopers assigned to the Metro South Post, SCP Hamtramck Detail, attempted to stop a vehicle for no license plate and careless driving. The vehicle failed to stop and a short chase ensued.

Police say the chase ensued only for about 30 seconds, until the suspect lost control on the snow-covered road and struck a chain link fence, disabling his vehicle. The suspect then got out of his vehicle and started running, according to police. He was ultimately taken into custody after a short foot pursuit.

The crash caused minor damage to the fence. There were no injuries to anyone and no damage to any patrol vehicles.

Charges are pending prosecutor review.
