Romulus Man Charged In Attack On Woman Jogging At Oakwoods Metropark

HURON TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - A Romulus man has been arrested and charged after he allegedly attacked a woman jogging at Oakwoods Metropark.

According to authorities, the 26-year-old victim was alone in the park Tuesday afternoon when a man appeared on a bicycle in a wooded area. The woman turned to run in the opposite direction, but the man caught up, punched her in the face several times, knocked her to the ground and began trying to remove her clothes.

The woman was able to fight off her attacker who stole her cell phone before running from the area, and ran to a nearby home for help.

The suspect, Darien Noel Pickling, was found by Metropark police officers a short time later, with the woman's phone in his possession.

He was charged Wednesday with one count each of kidnapping, unarmed robbery, assault with intent to commit criminal sexual conduct and assault with intent to commit great bodily harm. An arraignment scheduled for Thursday in 34th District Court.

Prosecutors say the victim, a Rockwood resident, was treated at a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
