Michigan Man Dies After Truck Filled With Rocks Overturns

HANOVER TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Police say a man has died in Jackson County after a dump truck he was sitting in overturned and rolled down a hill after being filled with rocks.

Jackson County Undersheriff Christopher Kuhl says the incident happened around 6 p.m. Monday in Hanover Township.

He says 23-year-old Steven Barnhill of Jonesville was in the truck's driver's seat while it was being loaded with rocks when it overturned and trapped him inside, causing fatal injuries.

Kuhl says Barnhill and another person using an excavator had been clearing rocks for the property owner. The sheriff's office said in a statement that investigators believe the dump truck overturned because of a mechanical failure.

The Jackson Citizen Patriot reports the statement says the truck was "fully loaded" before overturning.
