FBI: Detroit Terror Suspect Intended To Kill With Grenades

DETROIT (WWJ) - The FBI says a Detroit terror suspect planned to kill people with grenades he allegedly bought from undercover federal agent in Monroe.

Simon Gregerson, 29, is facing four new counts including receiving explosives containing TNT and RDX with the knowledge that they would be sued to kill, injure and cause property damage.

In the new indictment, filed Friday in U.S. District Court in Detroit, he is also accused of possessing buckshot and flares — the type that can be used from a variety of launchers.

There are reports that the FBI claims Gregorson was working with a Maryland imam on an alleged violent Jihad, although he has not been charged with terrorism.

Gregerson was arrested and charged in August after he bought five grenades from an undercover FBI agent in exchange for a Beretta and had an arsenal of weapons in his home, according to a criminal complaint filed in U.S. District Court.

Federal prosecutor Kathleen Quarkin said weapons found in his home included seven rifles, 20 knives, tactical gear and training materials, two ski masks along with what is called a "grab and go bag" filled with hundreds of rounds of ammunition.

Gregerson's attorney told WWJ Newsradio 950 that Gregerson — who converted to Islam and took the name Abdurrahman Bin Mikaayl —  is merely a lifelong gun enthusiast and Bear Grylls fan and not a danger to the community.

In an exclusive Detroit News phone interview, Gregerson laughed away most of the FBI's allegations, calling them "ridiculous." He denied being an Islamic State supporter, adding that he's an advocate of the United States and the West.
