Clarkston home destroyed after early morning fire, no injuries reported

Clarkston home destroyed by fire

A home on Forest Valley Drive in Clarkston, Michigan, was destroyed in a fire early Thursday.

A neighbor who was in his garage at the time said he heard a large bang about 4:40 a.m., and rushed to check on the situation at 5005 Forest Valley Drive. He called 911.

Dave Piche, fire chief for Independence Township Fire Department, which serves that community, said by the time firefighters arrived, flames had gone through the roof and about 75% of the 6,000-square-foot home was involved in the fire.

The residents were not home at the time, and no injuries were reported to the firefighters and first responders.

Eight community fire departments assisted Independence Township on the call.

The Oakland County Sheriff's Office reported that its fire inspector also responded to the scene and is investigating the cause of the blaze.
