Broken Thermometer Creates HazMat Situation At Detroit Water And Sewerage Treatment Plant
DETROIT (WWJ) - A broken thermometer has caused a hazardous material situation at the Detroit Water and Sewerage Treatment plant.
Just after 8 a.m. a thermometer either fell onto the floor or was dropped, causing mercury to spill at a treatment plant on Eight Mile near Van Dyke.
It's considered a low-level incident.
Officials tell WWJ the mercury was contained to a single office--and the water supply was never in danger. No one was injured.
The mercury was not exposed to the water supply.
