$1 Million Bonds Set In Killing Of Metro Detroit Man Whose Body Has Yet To Be Found

TOLEDO (WWJ/AP) - A judge has set $1 million bonds for husband and wife from northwest Ohio who are charged in the slaying of the wife's former lover.

Robert Strauss and his wife Desirae Strauss, both 36, appeared separately this week in a Toledo courtroom, where a judge set bond for both at $1 million.

The Toledo couple is charged with the bludgeoning death of 52-year-old Brian Martin, of Ypsilanti -- whose body has yet to be found.

Martin's daughter reported him missing on June 28. The last time Martin was seen, he was coaching a softball game near Toledo on June 22. Martin was expected to be in Louisville, Kentucky that same night, but he never showed.

According to a police report, Desirae Strauss' mother told officers that she saw Martin at the Strauss' home on June 22. Toledo police say evidence found at the couple's home indicates Martin was attacked at that location.

The couple was arrested July 8 in Anderson, Indiana after police received a complaint they were dealing drugs out of a vehicle that turned out to be Martin's, Mlive.com reported.

Police believe Martin was killed in Toledo and that his body was dumped somewhere between Toledo and Anderson, Indiana.

Martin's daughter told police that her father and Desirae Strauss had been romantically involved for three years. According to reports, Martin apparently believed he was the father of Desirae Strauss' recently born twins. Martin was allegedly pressing Desirae Strauss to take a paternity test -- which she refused. Reports say Robert Strauss found out about his wife's relationship with Martin shortly before the metro Detroit man disappeared.

The couple is due back in court July 28 for a preliminary hearing.

Anyone with information on the case is urged to contact police at 419-245-3340 or Crime Stoppers of Ohio at 419-255-1111.
