Police said the man threw a knife at officers while they attempted to arrest him, injuring one of them. The officer was taken to a local hospital for treatment of what authorities said are non-life-threatening injuries.

Authorities evacuated the hotel around 2 p.m. while crisis negotiators continued attempting to resolve the situation peacefully.

After a five hour standoff, the SWAT team at the scene deployed gas into the hotel room and arrested the suspect. Police said another officer was wounded when they were bitten by the suspect's dog. That officer was treated at a local hospital and has since been released.

The police department said the dog has been placed in the care of Broomfield Animal Services.
