Woman Charged After Allegedly Striking Boyfriend With Car

LEADVILLE, Colo. (CBS4)- A Leadville woman was charged with killing her boyfriend after allegedly running him down with her vehicle.

Maria Day, 54, was charged on Thursday with first-degree murder, vehicular homicide, leaving the accident scene causing death and crimes of violence, all considered acts of domestic violence.

Police said Day struck and killed her boyfriend, John Alexander Martinez, 55, on July 8.

Officers responded to a call to Chestnut Street in Leadville to investigate a report of a vehicle striking a pedestrian. The victim, Martinez, was identified as the boyfriend of Day. He died from injuries related to the incident about 8:45 p.m.

Day was arrested in her car.

Bail for Day was initially set for $15,000 but was revoked with the filing of more serious charges. Day remains in custody without bond. She is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 5 in Leadville.
