'Tribes' Makes Us Question What It Means To Be Understood

DENVER (CBS4)- In Tribes, the members of Billy's family share private languages, inside jokes and fiery arguments. But meeting a special person causes Billy, who has been deaf since birth, to question what it means to be understood.

Billy struggles with a family that demands he be a part of the hearing world while essentially turning his back on signing in a place in his own tribe in the community.

He meets Sylvia a woman who knows sign but is slowly losing her hearing, Billy comes to realize that he's trapped between two worlds.

In many ways Tribes is the story of who we think we are, not who we really are.

Tribes is playing at the Ricketson Theatre at the DCPA through Nov. 15.
