Schools In Ellicott Closed Because Of Threat Of Violence

ELLICOTT, Colo. (AP) - Schools in a small district east of Colorado Springs are closed as authorities investigate a threat posted on social media.

Ellicott School District 22 officials announced Monday that schools would be closed because of a "threat of significant violence" but didn't elaborate.

El Paso County Sheriff Lt. Greg Maxwell told The Gazette that the threat was posted on the After School app late Sunday in a message board for district students. He also declined to provide further details.

The app is targeted at teens and allows them to discuss school issues while remaining anonymous.

The district includes an elementary, middle and a high school as well as a preschool.
