Police Investigate Dating Habits Of Murder Suspect
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (CBS4)- Police in Colorado Springs have taken a closer look at a murder suspect's dating habits in Colorado and California after his girlfriend's body was found inside a minivan in a storage facility.
On Friday authorities were investigating the report of a missing person when they went to a public storage facility located at 4400 block of East Platte Avenue and found a body in a minivan inside one of the units.
Police believe the victim, Julie Tureson, 33, was killed by her boyfriend, James Woo. Investigators said the couple dated for a few years but were often at odds.
"There was a history of domestic violence calls. They had broken up within a week of the homicide," said El Paso County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Jacqueline Kirby.
Tureson was a single mother of four. She was found shot to death in her minivan inside a storage unit in Colorado Springs on April 22.
Police believe after the deadly shooting, Woo boarded a plane from Denver to Seattle before he was arrested on another plane preparing to depart to Hong Kong. He remains in custody in Seattle until he is extradited to Colorado.
"It's an interesting case in that he had a whole separate life," said Kirby.
While dating Tureson, the El Paso County Sheriff's Office said Woo was a prolific user of online dating websites and apps like Tinder. Detectives believe he was in contact with several women in his hometown of San Francisco as well as Denver and Colorado Springs.
Detectives hope those women will come forward.
"We're not looking at anything criminal at this point but we're trying to obtain information, historical information that will give us a good picture of Mr. Woo," said Kirby.
Neighbor Nancy Davis said the couple seemed happy, "I always saw them skateboarding, riding bikes."
She is concerned about the children who have lost their mom, "I hope the kids are okay, that's very sad."
