New Information Revealed About Planned Parenthood Attack Suspect
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (CBS4) - The man accused of opening fire at the Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado Springs was a man who loved to womanize, gamble and beat those he courted, according to the New York Times.
CBS4 Investigator Rick Sallinger has been gathering clues into what sparked last week's violence.
Since last week's rampage investigators, reporters and Planned Parenthood have been trying to find out who suspected gunman Robert Lewis Dear is. Now it's been revealed that he lived in a trailer in Hartsel, west of Colorado Springs, with Stephanie Bragg, who came after Dear's three wives.
The New York Times wrote that Dear once praised anti-abortion extremists as "heroes," according to an acquaintance. He reportedly said "no more baby parts" while he was being taken into custody last Friday in Colorado Springs.
Court documents from South Carolina indicate Dear was convicted for carrying a knife and a loaded gun in 1991, according to the New York Times. The next year he was arrested as a rape suspect, but there was no conviction.
On a website called Sexy Ads, next to his picture it said "looking for discreet relationship," according to the New York Times. And the paper reported Dear visited cannabis forums indicating he wanted to party.
Dear moved to North Carolina and lived in a shack before moving to Colorado. On the outside wall of that shack was a cross.
Neighbors were surprised to learn of his arrest.
"There's not much you do … just be glad he wasn't here," a neighbor said.
Also in Dear's records were arrests for being a Peeping Tom and for cruelty to animals. The charges were dismissed in both of those cases.
