Strong Storms Return For Holiday Weekend

DENVER (CBS4) - Our holiday weekend started off hot and dry statewide but it will end significantly cooler with scattered showers and thunderstorms, especially on Monday.

While areas from Castle Pines, Aurora to Commerce City had passing thunderstorms, severe storms pounded parts of eastern Colorado early in the afternoon on Sunday. There was a tornado warning issued for a storm in southern Weld County. Along with several severe thunderstorm warnings throughout Sunday afternoon.

Our neighbors in southern Wyoming had a fast tornado outbreak with Sunday's storms. Several reports of funnel clouds and tornadoes sighted on the ground from Casper to just north of Cheyenne.

Looking ahead, your Memorial Day will consist of partly to mostly cloudy skies statewide with increased relative humidity and cooler temperatures.

We are also expecting more widespread thunderstorms tomorrow, some of which could be strong to severe. That threat will include metro Denver and most of the I-25 urban corridor.
