"Denver police received a report of a shooting in the 3300 block of Cherry Street. They arrived to find a man and woman with gunshot wounds inside a car at that location," Kimbrough said in a statement. "The charges allege that Nixon and Mayfield, who knew the victims, were both involved in the shooting."

Kimbrough said Nixon was arrested in Fort Worth, Texas in March and Mayfield was arrested in Denver last week.
