Denver Official Charged With Bribery
DENVER (AP) — Prosecutors are charging a Denver city official with bribery.
A Grand Jury indicted Larry Lee Stevenson on two bribery charges last week. The indictment was unsealed Monday. Stevenson is a supervisor in Denver's Excise and Licensing Department.
The indictment alleged Stevenson took $5500 from a businessman to try to secure him a parking contract at Denver International Airport. The indictment says Stevenson was introduced to the businessman by Denver Mayor Michael Hancock, who called Stevenson his right-hand man. Stevenson was best man at the mayor's wedding 22 years ago.
In a statement, Hancock said he placed Stevenson on investigatory leave and that bribery cannot be tolerated.
