CU Expands Low Income Financial Aid

BOULDER, Colo. (AP) - University of Colorado is expanding a financial aid program that helps its lowest income students.

The university announced the move Thursday as Boulder chancellor Philip DiStefano attended a White House summit focused on expanding college opportunities.

The CU Promise program provides enough grants and work-study to cover the costs of tuition, fees and books for students at or below the federal poverty level. Last year, the program helped 400 students but this year the school says it will help 600.

Leaders from more than 100 colleges and universities are participating in the summit hosted by the Obamas. All have agreed to take action on one of four issues, including helping low-income students graduate.
