Colorado Elections Update Signed Into Law

DENVER (AP) - Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper has signed into law an elections update extending same-day registration and other changes to local races.

The signature Tuesday was expected and will allow elections clerks to meet early deadlines for this year's elections.

The new law rectifies eligibility discrepancies in some local races that remained after passage last year of an elections law that added same-day registration and required all eligible voters to be mailed ballots.

Republicans tried in vain to stop the elections update. They said that the new elections law is flawed and shouldn't be extended to all local races.
