Campsites In Summit County Still Available After Cancellations

FRISCO, Colo. (CBS4)- The snow that fell in the high country is giving some campers the wrong idea when it comes to camping over the upcoming Memorial Day Weekend.

Although many areas of Colorado received more than a foot of snow since Monday, Fairplay for instance, there are many other areas that have only received rain.

But the snowfall forecasts have many campers cancelling their plans to pitch a tent and a weekend filled with hiking and toasting marshmallows over a fire pit.

"The perception is that we have a foot and a half of snow and other places do, like on the other side of the pass, but we did not get it. It's cold, but it's not too cold that you can't get out and enjoy the hiking and everything that we have to offer up here," said Peak One Campground host Janice Nichols.

Campgrounds urge campers to call ahead before predicting the conditions of the campground.
