Bear Takes A Nap Up A Tree In Boulder
BOULDER, Colo. (CBS4)- Wildlife officials let a bear nap in a tree in Boulder on Thursday because it was close to the forest and not threatening anyone.
While the bear slept, crowds grew around the tree in the neighborhood in the foothills off Table Mesa Drive. The bear crawled up the tree around dawn on Thursday.
"This is the second bear I've seen and I've lived here my whole life... 22 years," said one resident.
"Excuse me, folks, can you move back and get back on the sidewalk," said Bear Aware volunteer Betty Naughton.
It's the first bear sighting that Naughton has been called to by Colorado Parks and Wildlife this year.
"I guess seeing a bear is pretty rare even in Boulder where it's right next to the mountain," said another resident.
The bear wandered back into the forest around dusk.
Wildlife officials asked people not to have food, trash or other items that will attract bears to the neighborhood or populated areas. Bear-proof trash cans are required in the neighborhood where the bear was spotted.
