Bear Hangs Out In Tree In Steamboat

STEAMBOAT, Colo. (CBS4)- A bear hung out high in a tree in Steamboat on Wednesday afternoon and drew quite a crowd. The bear finally came down from the tree once the crowd dispersed and it grew dark.

CBS4 viewer Shannon Lukens sent in some pictures of the bear in a tree near the 5th Street bridge along the Yampa River by the Rodeo Grounds and Howelsen Ice Arena.

People lined up along the bridge to watch the bear. Colorado Parks and Wildlife joined those watching the bear. They wanted to make sure that no one got too close to the bear.

"Stay away from these bears. If people leave them alone, they'll come down and go their merry way," said Colorado Parks and Wildlife spokesman Mike Porras.

He also recommended that people give the bears plenty of space.

As the evening wore on, the Colorado Parks and Wildlife urged people to give the bear plenty of space because he was getting stressed and wouldn't come down until everyone left.

The crowd dispersed and the bear finally came down from the tree and ran off into the woods.
