Active Shooter Situation At Springs Planned Parenthood

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (CBS4) - An active shooter was reported at the Planned Parenthood in Colorado Springs Friday morning.

Reports were first heard at 11:45 a.m. of a shooter at 3480 Centennial Boulevard. Initial reports indicate the shooter has a long gun.

People at the nearby shops were told to shelter in place.

One officer was shot in the hand, and five total were injured. One of those injured officers remained in the building.

Lt. Catherine Buckley with the Colorado Springs Police Department said an unknown number of civilians were injured. It is unknown if there are any fatalities.

A man was on the phone with his sister, who was inside Planned Parenthood, when the situation began. He said he heard numerous shots fired.

Officers again encountered gunfire at 2:15 p.m.

Buckley said it is not clear if the shooter is contained. The suspect is not in custody and the area remained insecure until 5 p.m.

Penrose Hospital confirmed that six patients had arrived as of 3:20 p.m.

President Obama has been briefed on the shooting and will be updated as necessary.

Centennial Boulevard was closed between Fillmore Street and Garden of the Gods Road and drivers warned to avoid Centennial at Fillmore.
