Woman Injured In Antioch Residential Blaze
ANTIOCH, Ill. (STMW) -- Firefighters got creative following a residential fire early Sunday in north suburban Antioch.
The fire occurred about 2:20 a.m. in the 22000 block of West Lake Shore Drive, Antioch Fire Deputy Chief Chris Lienhardt said. A woman was hospitalized as a precautionary measure, Lienhardt added. Her age was not immediately known, but was said to be older than 18.
When firefighters arrived, they realized there were no fire hydrants in the immediate area. That's when fire officials called for the use of four tankers – which each carried about 4,000 tons of water – and connected them with a six-inch hose a mile and a half away from the burning structure, Lienhardt said.
Firefighters from Lake Villa, Fox Lake, Newport and Bristol – which is from neighboring Wisconsin – put out the blaze at about 6 a.m., Lienhardt added.
Lienhardt said the building was a "total loss" and said weather conditions added difficulty in putting out the fire.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
