2 killed, 23 hurt in Chicago weekend shootings, according to police

At least two people were killed and 23 others were hurt in shootings across Chicago during the weekend, according to police.

The ages of the victims range from 6 to 49.

According to police, the first shooting wasn't reported until 1 a.m. Saturday. A 36-year-old woman was walking in the 10100 block of South Michigan Avenue when she was approached by an unknown man, who shot at her as she ran away.

The woman was grazed in the arm and was treated and released at the scene.

Also, around 1 a.m., a 17-year-old boy was shot in his arm while walking in the 8700 block of South Escanaba Avenue.

He, too, was grazed by the gunfire and self-transported to South Shore Hospital in good condition.

A 25-year-old woman was wounded in a drive-by shooting around 4:30 a.m. in the 7400 block of South State Street. 

Police said the victim was standing outside when an unknown gunman inside an unknown vehicle shot at her. 

She was struck in the leg and was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in good condition.

Shootings from Saturday 

  • At 1:09 p.m., a 40-year-old man was approached by an unknown person in the 2100 block of South Pulaski Road, and was shot in the leg and groin. The victim was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious condition.
  • At 2:15 p.m., a 27-year-old man was in the alley in the 5900 block of South Carpenter Street when two people came up and demanded his property. After the victim handed over his belongings, one of the robbers pulled out a gun and shot him in the leg. The victim was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in fair condition.
  • At 7:40 p.m. in the 6400 block of South Marshfield Avenue, a 26-year-old man was standing outside when he heard multiple shots being fired and felt pain. The victim sustained one gunshot wound to the abdomen and was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital in good condition. The victim was unable to provide further details of the incident.
  • At 8:40 p.m. in the 800 block of West 27th Street, a 31-year-old woman was outside when she was shot at by an unidentified man who was traveling in a dark colored sedan. The victim was shot in the chest and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Further investigation revealed that the offenders were attempting to take the victim's personal belongings. The victim was identified as Gabriela Ochoa.
  • At 9:14 p.m. in the 5300 block of North Sheridan Road, a 49-year-old man was outside walking when he heard two men arguing, followed by multiple shots being fired. The victim was hit once in the shoulder and was taken to Illinois Masonic in fair condition.     
  • At 9:19 p.m. in the 8400 block of South Muskegon Avenue, officers responded to a person shot and found that multiple victims were struck by gunfire. A 23-year-old woman was hit in the abdomen and arm and taken to the U of C in critical condition. A 38-year-old man was hit in the back and was also taken to the U of C in serious condition. The third victim, a 23-year-old man, was hit in the hand and was in good condition at Trinity Hospital. Preliminary investigation indicates that the offender may have been traveling in a white SUV.
  • At 9:30 p.m. in an unknown location, a man of unknown age was shot once in the body and was taken to a local hospital in serious condition. The victim was unable to provide details of the incident. 
  • At 10:26 p.m. in the 8500 block of South Elizabeth Street, a 23-year-old man was walking through an alley when an unknown suspect exited a vehicle and began shooting at the victim before fleeing the scene. The victim was hit twice in the back and was taken to Christ Hospital in fair condition. The victim was unable to provide further details of the incident.
  • At 10:48 p.m. in the 7600 block of South King Drive, a 31-year-old man was outside walking when he heard shots being fired and felt pain. The victim was hit once in the leg and thigh and was taken to U of C in fair condition. The victim was unable to provide details of the incident.
  • At 11:11 p.m. in the 2400 block of West Jackson Boulevard, officers responded to a person shot and found that multiple victims had been hit by gunfire. A 36-year-old man suffered one gunshot wound to the leg and was in serious condition. A 22-year-old man suffered one graze wound to the knee and was in good condition. The third victim, a 32-year-old male victim suffered multiple gunshots to the body and was in critical condition. The fourth victim, a 19-year-old man, suffered a graze wound to the nose and was in good condition. All the victims were taken to Stroger Hospital for treatment. 
  •  At 11:17 p.m. in the 3600 block of West Fifth Avenue, a 16-year-old boy was outside walking when he heard shots being fired and felt pain. The victim was hit once in the torso and was taken to Stroger in serious condition.

Shootings from Sunday

  • At 5:06 a.m. in the 5800 block of North Mozart Street, a 29-year-old man was sitting in a vehicle was approached by an unknown gunman on foot, who fired shots in the direction of the victim. The victim was hit by multiple gunshot wounds in the body and was taken to St. Francis Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
  •  At 10:30 a.m. in the 2800 block of East 78th Street, an argument between a 34-year-old man and an unknown person turned into a fight when the offender produced a firearm and fired several shots in the direction of the victim. The victim was struck and was taken to Jackson Park Hospital in good condition.
  • At 10:30 a.m. in the 1000 block of North Hamlin Avenue, a 6-year-old boy was taken to Humboldt Park House Hospital in unknown condition after suffering a gunshot wound to a finger. No further details were available. 
  • At 11:42 a.m. in the 4900 block of West Adams Street, a 28-year-old man was outside when he was approached by multiple unknown gunmen, who shot the victim multiple times in the body. The offenders fled the scene. The victim was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
  • At 11 p.m. in the 7100 block of South Vernon Avenue, a 16-year-old boy told police that he was walking and heard shots. The victim said he fled the scene and later realized he had a gunshot wound to the right calf. He was dropped off at Comer Children's Hospital in good condition.

Shootings from early Monday morning

  •  At 3:24 a.m. in the 6900 block of South Stony Island Avenue, a 28-year-old man was walking when an unknown gunman approached the victim on foot and began shooting in the victim's direction before leaving the scene. The victim suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the back and was taken to U of C in critical condition.

Unless otherwise noted, no arrests were made in either incident.
