Ventra App Surpasses 1 Million Downloads

CHICAGO (CBS) -- The Ventra app has been downloaded more than one million times in less than a year since its debut, Metra announced Sunday.

The free transit app that allows riders to pay their CTA, Metra and Pace fares has surpassed one million downloads and been used to buy more than $110 million in fares, according to a statement from Metra.

"The Ventra app is a fast and easy way to buy and display Metra mobile tickets, and that's why it has really caught on with Metra customers – it now accounts for nearly one in four of our ticket sales," Metra CEO Don Orseno said in the statement.

"We've really put a ticket vending machine in the pocket of every customer who owns a smartphone," Orseno said.

The app was launched in November 2015.
