One Person Dead After Vehicle Is Hit By Amtrak Train Near Deerfield Station

DEERFIELD, Ill. (CBS) -- One person was killed Thursday evening when a car got hit by an Amtrak train in the northern suburbs.

Northbrook fire Chief Andy Carlson said just after 7 p.m., a vehicle was struck by a southbound train near the Deerfield station and dragged south near the Edens Spur. The car went on to burst into flames.

One person was confirmed dead in the vehicle, Carlson said.

At the scene late Thursday, firefighters were seen spraying water on what was left of the car.

Metra Milwaukee District North line trains were halted following the accident.
