Shooting leads to apparent crash in Chicago's Brighton Park neighborhood

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Two men were left in critical condition after being shot in a car in the Brighton Park neighborhood late Thursday afternoon.

At 4:30 p.m., two men, ages 31 and 43, were in a car headed southwest on busy Archer Avenue near the intersection with Pershing Road. A man in a tan sport-utility vehicle fired multiple shots into the car, police said.

The vehicle with the gunman inside sped off in an unknown direction, while the victims' vehicle crashed soon afterward. It came to rest in front of a McDonald's on Archer Avenue.

The younger man suffered multiple gunshot wounds to his body and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, while the older man was shot in the face and chest and was taken to Stroger Hospital of Cook County. Both were in critical condition.

At the scene, the victims' car had bullet holes low in the windshield, and the right front wheel was ripped up.

Late Thursday, no one was in custody in the shooting. Wentworth Area detectives are investigating.
