3 dead, 18 hurt in Chicago weekend shootings, police say

At least three people were killed and 18 others were hurt in weekend shootings across Chicago as of Sunday. 

The ages of the victims range from 18 to 55.

Shootings from Friday

In the first shooting of the weekend, officers responded to a call of a person shot just after 9:30 p.m. in the 5400 block of South Prairie Avenue. Fire crews also arrived at the scene and found a 20-year-old woman unresponsive, with a gunshot wound to the head.

She was pronounced dead on the scene. No further information, including the victim's identity, was available.

Later, just before 11 p.m., officers responded to another call of a person shot, this time in the 6800 block of South Wood Street.

The victim, a 53-year-old man, was walking into a building when he heard a loud noise and felt pain. Officers found him with gunshot wounds to his right foot and to the back. He was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in fair condition.

The victim was unable to provide further details.

 Then, around 11:17 p.m., a 21-year-old woman was outside in the 9800 block of South Avenue G when she heard shots and felt pain.

She was hit in the left leg and was taken to the U of C Hospital in fair condition. She was also unable to provide information about the incident.

Shootings from Saturday

  • At 1 a.m., in the 2500 block of South Rockwell Street, officers responded to a call of a walk-in person shot at Mt. Sinai Hospital. The victim, a 55-year-old man, was standing outside when he heard a loud noise and observed blood on his shoe. The victim sustained a gunshot wound to the right calf and self-transported to Mt. Sinai Hospital in good condition. 
  • At 2:30 a.m. in the 8100 block of South Cottage Grove, the victim, a 38-year-old man, was getting into his vehicle when he heard shots and felt pain. The victim was hit in the right knee. He self-transported to St. Bernard Hospital in good condition. 
  • At 3 a.m. in the 2200 block of West Cortland Street, a 32-year-old man was found by fire crews unresponsive, with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was taken to St. Mary's Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. 
  • At 3:30 a.m. in the 11800 block of South State Street, a 21-year-old woman was approached by two men who attempted to rob her. A struggle ensued, and one of the men pulled out a firearm and shot her in the right thigh. She was taken to Christ Hospital in fair condition.
  • At 6:55 a.m. in the 1200 block of South Kildare Avenue, two men, 27 and 34, were inside a vehicle when an unknown man with a firearm exited a nearby building and opened fire. The 27-year-old victim was grazed on the left leg. The 34-year-old victim was struck in the left hip. No other injuries were reported. Both victims were taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital in good condition.
  • At 3:56 p.m. in the 800 block of East 63rd Street, two armed people walked into a laundromat and started shooting. A 31-year-old man was shot multiple times and was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

    A 25-year-old man was shot in the leg and was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in good condition. A male victim of unknown age suffered a graze wound and took himself to the University of Chicago Medical Center. A 6-year-old boy who was cut by broken glass was taken to Comer Children's Hospital in good condition.

  • At 9:15 p.m. in the 9100 block of South Constance Avenue, a man, 26, was driving in his vehicle when he drove past a group of three unknown individuals standing in the middle of the street. The victim then heard a loud noise and felt pain. The victim was shot in the left abdomen and self-transported to Trinity Hospital in fair condition. 

  • At 10 p.m. in the 9300 block of South Calumet Avenue, officers were dispatched to a walk-in person who was shot at the University of Chicago Hospital. The victim, an 18-year-old man, was inside his vehicle when he heard multiple shots and felt pain. The victim was hit twice in the right leg and once in the left leg and was in fair condition. The victim was uncooperative in providing further details of the incident. 

  • At 11:35 p.m. in the 9000 block of South Mackinaw Avenue, a 31-year-old man was driving when he was approached by a white van that kept driving alongside him. An unknown person from inside displayed a gun and opened fire from inside the van and fled the scene. The victim was hit in the left calf and was taken to Trinity Hospital in good condition.

  • At 11:48 p.m. in the 6300 block of South Wentworth Avenue, a 32-year-old man was standing outside when a vehicle drove past and an unknown person displayed a gun and opened fire from inside the vehicle. The offender fled the scene in the vehicle. The victim was shot in the left foot. He was transported to St. Bernard Hospital in good condition.

Shootings from Sunday

  • At midnight in the 4700 block of West Palmer Street, Chicago police officers responded to a call of a walk-in gunshot victim at West Suburban Hospital. The victim, a 21-year-old woman, was standing outside when she heard shots and felt pain. She was hit in the left thigh and saw a dark colored SUV fleeing the scene, occupied by two unknown people. The victim self-transported to West Suburban Hospital in fair condition.
  •  At 12:30 a.m. in the 5500 block of South Ashland Avenue, officers responded to a call of a walk-in gunshot victim at the University of Chicago Medical. The victim, a 20-year-old man, was walking outside when he heard shots and felt pain. The victim was shot in the right thigh and self-transported to the hospital in good condition. The victim was unable to provide further details of the incident.
  • At 3:37 a.m. in the 8500 block of South Elizabeth Street, a 39-year-old man was standing outside when a yellow vehicle drove by and someone from inside shot at him. The victim was hit twice in the left arm and was taken to Christ Hospital in fair condition. The offender fled the scene in the vehicle.
  • At 5:31 a.m. in the 1100 block of West 75th Street, the victim, a 28-year-old woman, was driving when passing by a grey pickup truck. The unknown driver of the truck opened fire. The shot went through the victim's rear passenger window, hitting the victim in the inner left thigh. The victim was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in good condition. No other injuries were reported.
  • At 1 p.m. Sunday, a 29-year-old man self-transported to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition after being shot in his buttocks in the 5000 block of South Kedzie Avenue. The victim was uncooperative with police, and no crime scene was located.

Unless otherwise noted, no arrests were made in either incident.
