Trains On The Move After Signal And Power Failure On Several Metra Lines

CHICAGO (STMW) -- Trains were temporarily halted on four separate Metra lines early Wednesday because of a signal and power failure.

Both inbound and outbound trains were stopped on the Milwaukee District / North Line; the Milwaukee District / West Line; the Rock Island District Line; and the Metra Electric District, the transit agency reported at 12:50 a.m. Wednesday.

Signals and power were completely restored by 2:23 a.m., according to Metra. Trains were expected to operate on schedule for the Wednesday morning commute, but customers were urged to listen to platform announcements for the locations of trains.

As of 2:21 a.m., outbound train No. 2159 on the Milwaukee District / North Line, which was scheduled to depart Chicago at 12:25 a.m., was operating 38 minutes behind schedule due to the signal problems, Metra said.

At 1:54 a.m., the Milwaukee District / West Line outbound train No. 2257, scheduled to arrive in Big Timber Rd at 1:59 a.m., was on the move and was experiencing extensive delays, according to the transit agency.

At 2:10 a.m., outbound train No. 533, scheduled to depart Chicago at 12:30 a.m., was operating with a 17-minute delay on the the Rock Island District Line.

At 2:19 a.m., the Metra Electric District outbound train No. 353, scheduled to arrive at 93rd St – South Chicago at 1:36 a.m., will be on the move once train No. 153 arrives at 63rd, Metra said. These trains are experiencing extensive delays due to the signal and power failure. Train No. 153, scheduled to arrive at University Park at 2:10 a.m., is on the move and is experiencing extensive delays due to the signal and power failure.

Also, the BNSF Railway outbound train No. 1325, scheduled to depart Chicago at 12:40 a.m., was operating with a 78-minute delay as of 1:58 a.m., Metra said.
