Thousands Walk Along Lakefront To Fight Hunger

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Thousands of people came out to Chicago's lakefront Saturday morning to help in the fight against hunger.

WBBM's Nancy Harty reports the fog blended in with the grills cooking up hot dogs, sausages and corn as part of the post-walk party for the Greater Chicago Food Depository's 29th Annual Hunger Walk.

The goal was to have 15,000 people participate in the 5K walk, which benefits food pantries, soup kitchens and shelters in the Chicago area.

The food depository says it has received a 70 percent jump in need over the last six years. They estimate almost 800,000 are at risk of hunger in Cook County, which includes one in five children.
