Teen Shot, Killed After Argument With Girlfriend At Woodlawn Gathering

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A 16-year-old boy was fatally shot late Saturday by a friend of his girlfriend after the couple argued at a gathering in the South Side Woodlawn neighborhood.

Marquise Harris was in a second-floor apartment in the 6200 block of South St. Lawrence about 11:20 p.m. when he began arguing with his girlfriend, authorities said.

A male friend of the teen's girlfriend intervened and the two males began fighting, police said. The male friend left the gathering, returned a short time later and allegedly shot the teen in the chest.

Harris, who lived on the same block where he was shot, was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, where he was pronounced dead at 12:05 a.m. on Sunday, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

The alleged shooter is not in custody Sunday afternoon as Area Central detectives are investigating.
