Suspicious Package Cleared In Hyde Park; Metra Trains Running Again

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A suspicious package at a Metra station in the Hyde Park neighborhood halted trains on the South Side early Thursday afternoon.

The Chicago Police Bomb and Arson Unit responded about 11:30 a.m. to the 53rd Street station in the 5300 block of South Lake Park Avenue, police said.

The package was cleared at 12:40 p.m., police said. It was unclear if the package was in the station or on the platform.

Several Metra Electric and Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District South Shore Line trains were stopped in the area of the station, but are on the move again Thursday afternoon. Some Electric Line trains are up to an hour behind schedule.
