Stevenson Bridge Repairs To Resume

CHICAGO (STMW) -- The bridge deck repairs on the Stevenson Expressway 1-55 (Stevenson Expressway) from I-90/94 (Dan Ryan Expressway) to US 41 (Lake Shore Drive) will resume Monday, July 21 through next week Monday, July 28.

The bridge will be closed from 10 a.m. Monday to 5 a.m. Thursday, July 24, according to a statement from the Illinois Department of Transportation.

The left lane of northbound 1-55, the right lane of northbound 1-55 to northbound US 41, and the left lane of southbound US 41 to southbound 1-55 ramp will all be closed, according to the statement.

Drivers traveling northbound US 41 to southbound 1-55 ramp can use a detour exiting from northbound US 41 to northbound 18th Street ramp, r-enter on the southbound 18th Street ramp towards southbound Lake Shore Drive and exit on the southbound 1-55 ramp, according to the statement.

The bridge will also close from 11 p.m. Friday, July 25 until 5 a.m. next week Monday, July 28. During these days, the northbound lane of US 41, the southbound 1-55 ramp, and two left lanes of southbound 1-55 will experience closures. The left lane of southbound US 41 to southbound 1-55 ramp will also be closed, according to the statement.

IDOT advises motorists to allow extra time for trips and stay on alert for workers and equipment.
