Rain returns to Chicago area Wednesday night

Colder, wetter weather on the way for Chicago

CHICAGO (CBS) —  Following severe storms on Tuesday, Chicagoans are enjoying a nice break in the weather this Wednesday. But the next storm system is approaching quickly from the west.

Clouds should increase overnight, and then rain will become more widespread.

Periods of rain and thunderstorms are likely on Thursday, along with cooler winds off Lake Michigan capping high temperatures in the 50s.

Drier, mild weather returns Friday through the weekend, although a few isolated showers cannot be ruled out for Mother's Day plans.
