Edens Expressway lanes reopen after loose expansion joint leaves multiple cars with flat tires

Loose expansion joint leaves multiple cars with flat tires on Edens Expressway

Emergency repairs on a loose expansion joint caused delays on the inbound Eden's Expressway early Tuesday morning.

According to the Illinois State Police, initial calls came in around 4:10 a.m. for multiple cars with flat tires in the inbound lanes north of the Skokie Road exit.

The left and center lanes were shut down just after 5 a.m. and reopened after 9 a.m.

At least five drivers reported damage to their vehicles just ahead of the morning rush.

State police initially said the damage was caused by a hole in the roadway, possibly a pothole. Video from the scene shows a loose expansion joint on the roadway.

The Illinois Department of Transportation worked to fix the roadway.

Drivers with damaged vehicles from this incident can file a claim with IDOT online. You can also call 847-705-4048 or contact IDOT's Central Bureau of Claims at 217-782-6263.
