Person Struck, Killed By Metra Train On South Side

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A man was fatally struck by a Metra train Monday night on the South Side.

The pedestrian was hit about 10:15 p.m. by outbound Rock Island District train No. 529 near 99th Street, Metra spokesman Tom Miller said.

The pedestrian, identified as 20-year-old Adam Rodriguez, was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:15 a.m. Tuesday, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. He lived in the 9600 block of South Francisco Avenue in Evergreen Park.

The train, which was originally scheduled to arrive in Joliet at 11:14 p.m., operated 78 minutes behind schedule as a result of the crash, according to Metra.
