Person Fatally Struck By Metra Train In Northwest Suburbs

(STMW) -- A person was fatally struck by a Metra train Thursday afternoon in northwest suburban Woodstock, fire officials said.

Outbound train No. 615, which left Chicago at 11:30 a.m. and was scheduled to arrive in Harvard at 1:20 p.m., struck the pedestrian a few minutes before 1 p.m. in Woodstock, according to Metra spokesman Michael Gillis.

The incident happened about a mile north of where the tracks intersect with Lily Pond Road, Gillis said. The crash did not happen at a crossing.

The Woodstock Fire/Rescue District said the person was fatally struck, but did not immediately release additional details.

Details about the pedestrian were not immediately available

A spokesperson for the McHenry County sheriff's office did not immediately respond to a call for comment.
