Freight Train Kills Pedestrian In Villa Park; Metra Union Pacific-West Line Delayed

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A person was struck and killed by a freight train early Monday morning in west suburban Villa Park, leading to significant delays on the Metra Union Pacific-West line.

Villa Park police and Metra officials said a Union Pacific freight train struck a pedestrian near the Ardmore Avenue crossing around 4 a.m.

An unidentified male was pronounced dead at the scene.

Outbound Metra UP-West line trains were halted in Villa Park after the accident, and were running up to 35 minutes late as of 7 a.m.. Inbound trains operate on a different track, but were delayed for a while after the accident, as trains moved much slower than normal through Villa Park.
