One Killed In Head-On Crash Near Lemont

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A woman was killed and another person was seriously injured in a head-on crash early Tuesday near southwest suburban Lemont.

A silver Honda and a black Chevrolet crashed head-on on Route 83 about one mile east of Archer Avenue at 5:20 a.m., Cook County sheriff's spokeswoman Sophia Ansari said.

The driver of the Honda, identified as a 22-year-old woman by the Cook County medical examiner's office, was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead, Ansari said. Her name was not being released Tuesday morning pending notification of family.

The driver of the Chevrolet, also female, was hospitalized with "major injuries," Ansari said. Her age was not immediately available.

The crash remains under investigation by the sheriff's office.
