Metra trains in Chicago's northwest suburbs delayed after pedestrian hit

CHICAGO (CBS) – Trains on Metra's Milwaukee District North line were significantly delayed Saturday afternoon after a freight train struck a pedestrian in Deerfield.

Local police responded to the scene by the Deerfield Train Station around 3:10 p.m. after the south bound Canadian Pacific freight train hit the person.

The Milwaukee District North line runs from Fox Lake in northwest suburban McHenry County through northwest Cook County to Chicago Union Station.

The line stops in Deerfield, where police said the train crossing at Osterman Avenue, Hazel Avenue and Greenwood Avenue were shut down for an "ongoing investigation." Drivers were asked to use alternative routes and avoid the area.

The incident is being investigated by Metra police, the Lake County Coroner's Office, and the Deerfield Police Department.
