Metra Union Pacific Northwest service disrupted after train hits vehicle

Metra trains to Chicago's Northwest Side and northwest suburbs were disrupted during the midday hours Tuesday after a train hit a vehicle.

Metra said the front end of a vehicle went under a crossing gate and was clipped by a train near Nagle Avenue and Northwest Highway on Chicago's Northwest Side. The scene is near the Norwood Park station.

There were three people in the car including the driver, who was cited for failing to obey the crossing, Metra said.

No injuries were reported.

Metra said inbound and outbound Union Pacific Northwest line trains were halted near Norwood Park in the midday hours following the incident.

Union Pacific Northwest train No. 623, an outbound train, will not make it past Norwood Park. The train had been scheduled to arrive at Harvard, Illinois, at 12:25 p.m.

Union Pacific Northwest train No. 652, an inbound train, will not operate at all.

There were no reports of continued delays as of the start of the afternoon rush.
