Metra: Trains Delayed After Pedestrian Struck By Amtrak Train

NORTHBROOK (CBS) -- A woman was struck and killed Thursday by an Amtrak Hiawatha Service train in Northbrook.

Train No. 337, en route to Milwaukee, struck the female shortly after 4 p.m. near Shermer and Meadow roads in Northbrook, authorities said.

Metra spokesperson Meg Thomas Reile said Amtrak and Milwaukee District North Line service were halted in both directions for nearly an hour following the 4 p.m. accident because of the investigation, on tracks near Shermer and Meadow Roads.

A single track was reopened at about 4:50 p.m., but as of 9:30 p.m. delays of about 10 minutes continued in both directions on Metra trains.

No passenger or crew members aboard the train were injured, Amtrak spokesman Marc Magliari said.
