Metra train strikes pedestrian in Brookfield, Illinois

A Metra train hit a pedestrian Wednesday in the west Chicago suburb of Brookfield.

Brookfield police said at 7:49 p.m. that the Metra BNSF Line train hit the pedestrian near the Maple Avenue grade crossing.

Emergency personnel were on the scene, and the grade crossing was closed.

Inbound and outbound BNSF Line trains were stopped near Congress Park after the train, No. 1303, struck the pedestrian, according to Metra.

The condition of the pedestrian was not immediately available.

This was the second evening in a row that a pedestrian was struck by a BNSF Line Metra train.

On Tuesday evening, a BNSF Line Metra train hit a person near the train depot in west suburban Westmont. The person died at the scene.
