Metra Milwaukee District North line halted after Amtrak train hits pedestrian

Metra trains on the Milwaukee District North line in Chicago's northern suburbs were halted for hours Tuesday afternoon after an Amtrak train struck a pedestrian.

Metra officials said a witnesses said a man was walking his dog along the tracks when they were struck. Both the man and his dog were killed, Metra officials said.

Trains began moving again around 3:15 p.m. There are residual delays but most of the evening's service is expected to be on time.
