Mechanical Issues Cause Delays On Several Metra Lines

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Trains on multiple west suburban Metra rail lines were experiencing delays because of the cold weather Wednesday morning.

Inbound trains on the BNSF Railway line were operating up to 20 minutes behind schedule because of weather-related mechanical problems, according to a service alert from Metra. Train No. 1226, which was scheduled to arrive in Chicago at 7:35 a.m., will not operate.

Its riders will be accommodated by train No. 1234, which was scheduled to arrive in Chicago at 7:56 a.m., according to Metra. Train No. 1228, scheduled to arrive in Chicago at 7:40 a.m., will run express after the Route 59 stop.

Inbound trains on the Union Pacific West line were also operating up to 25 minutes behind schedule because of another mechanical problem, Metra said. Trains on the Milwaukee District West line were running six minutes behind schedule.
