Man Shot And Killed In River West

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A man was shot and killed inside a car early Thursday in the River West neighborhood.

The 34-year-old was in a vehicle that had struck a pole in the 1200 block of West Chicago Avenue, a spokesman for the Cook County Medical Examiner's office said. He had multiple gunshot wounds and was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 12:53 a.m., the spokesman said.

His name was withheld Thursday morning pending notification of his family.

Police said a 34-year-old man who died from gunshot wounds at Northwestern had crashed a sedan at about 12:20 a.m. in the 1000 block of West Ancona Street--about a quarter-mile from the Chicago Avenue address.

Kris Bailey, 36, said he lives in a residential building by the Ancona address and ran outside when he heard gunshots. When he came out, he saw a brown bumper on the ground and a light blue SUV speed off from the scene.
