Man Dies After Jumping In Chicago River

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A man died after he jumped into the Chicago River Saturday morning in the Loop.

Roy Word, 51, was pulled from the river in the 200 block of North LaSalle Street after authorities were notified he had jumped in about 7:45 a.m., police News Affairs Officer Ana Pacheco said.

He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, Pacheco said.

An autopsy Sunday found Word, who lived in the 6700 block of South Langley, drowned after jumping into the river and his death was ruled a suicide, according to the medical examiner's office.
