Man Dies After Falling Onto Blue Line Tracks In Chicago's Loop

(STMW) -- A man died after he fell onto the CTA Blue Line tracks early Saturday in the Loop.

The 36-year-old was waiting for a train at the Blue Line platform of the Clark and Lake station, 124 W. Lake, about 4:30 a.m. when he fell onto the tracks, according to police News Affairs Officer Jose Estrada. A train was able to stop without striking him.

The man came into contact with the electrified third rail and was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, Estrada said. Alcohol may have been a factor in the incident.

The Cook County medical examiner's office confirmed the death but did not release further details Saturday morning.
